Day-of tips: Most shops open between 10:00–noon, so a late-morning start works best. Bring a reusable bag — many stores charge for plastic. Most accept credit/debit; Chinatown Vintage and a few smaller spots prefer cash.
Getting Around
Bonus · Bike Rentals
Bikes Make This Day Easier
Vancouver is one of the most bike-friendly cities in North America, with protected bike lanes throughout downtown. Hopping on bikes will cut travel time roughly in half.
Mobi by Rogers $12 / 24 hrs
The cheapest option. Download the Mobi by Rogers app, register a credit card, and buy a 24-hour pass. Each rider needs their own pass. Unlimited 30-minute rides on classic bikes; helmets attached to every bike (BC law).
There's a Mobi station right outside the hotel and stations near every stop on this route. Park between stops to pause the timer, grab any available bike for the next leg.
Spokes Bicycle Rentals ~$13 / hr
If you'd prefer a nicer bike or longer rides, Spokes is the most popular private rental. The downtown location at 870 W Cordova is a 12-minute walk from the hotel. Helmets and locks included.
The Route
Stop 1
Wildlife Thrift Store
Address1295 Granville Street
Hours10:00 AM – 8:00 PM, every day
From hotel2 min walk (200 m)
Why go
The largest thrift store in downtown Vancouver, in a heritage 1917 building. It feels like a Winners or HomeSense, but for second-hand: organized racks sorted by type and size, a big shoe section at the back, plus housewares, kitchen items, books, and home décor. A perfect first stop while energy is high.
Walking directions
- Exit the Residence Inn onto Hornby Street and turn right (south)
- Walk one block to Drake Street and turn left
- Walk one block east to Granville — the store is on the corner
Stop 2
Value Village Boutique
Address1062 Granville Street
Hours9:00 AM – 8:00 PM, every day
From Wildlife5 min walk (450 m)
Why go
The upscale "Boutique" version of Value Village — more curated than a regular VV, with a focus on better-condition pieces and recognizable brands. Two floors, well organized, with a free membership for extra discounts. Shoppers regularly find designer pieces (Zara, Ralph Lauren, occasional luxury surprises) at thrift prices.
Walking directions
- Head north on Granville Street, storefronts on your right
- Walk three blocks past Davie and Helmcken streets
- Value Village Boutique is on the right at 1062 Granville, just before Nelson
Stop 3
Brandy Melville
Address872 Granville Street
Hours10:00 AM – 7:00 PM, every day
From VV3 min walk (200 m)
Why go
The only Brandy Melville in Vancouver — the trendy California-born brand known for breezy, casual basics. Worth pencilling in given how few locations exist in Canada. Slotting it between Value Village and Community Thrift adds zero extra walking distance.
Walking directions
- Continue north on Granville (same direction you've been walking)
- Walk two blocks past Nelson and Smithe
- Brandy Melville is on the right at 872 Granville
Heads up: This location can get busy on weekend afternoons — long fitting room lines are common. Earlier is better. Also, no drinks allowed inside the store.
↓
Walk to Gastown · 1 km · 12–15 minutes
Continue north on Granville for five blocks (you'll pass Robson and Granville SkyTrain station), turn right onto West Hastings, then walk three blocks east to Carrall Street.
Heads up: This route skirts the Downtown Eastside, which has visible homelessness and street-related issues. It's busy during the day and generally fine, but stay together, keep bags zipped, and stick to Hastings. If it ever feels uncomfortable, an Uber to the next stop is just a couple of dollars.

Community Thrift & Vintage
Stop 4
Community Thrift & Vintage
Address11 West Hastings Street
HoursMon–Sat 12–6 PM · Sun 12–5 PM
From Brandy12–15 min walk
Why go
Local favourite — tight curation, friendly staff, fair prices. It's a not-for-profit social enterprise: 100% of profits go to PHS Community Services Society, which supports housing and health programs in the neighbourhood. Smaller than the Granville stores but consistently strong.
Bonus stop: A second Community Thrift location called The Frock Shop is one block away on Carrall Street, focused on dresses.

Six Acres Top Pick

HoursBrunch on weekends from 9 AM

Price$$ — most plates $16–24 CAD
Why go
A Gastown favourite tucked into a beautiful old brick building right on Maple Tree Square. The patio out front is the real draw — wrought-iron tables under string lights, looking out at the historic Gassy Jack statue and Gastown's oldest cobblestoned corner. Brunch on weekends is excellent, and they have a strong drinks list. Pet-friendly too.
Tip: If the patio is full when you arrive (it can fill up on a sunny weekend), put your name on the list and wander into Carrall Street's shops while you wait — usually 15–20 minutes max.

From Stop 45 min walk (350 m)
Price$$ — most plates $20–32 CAD
Rating4.2 stars · 1,900+ reviews
Why go
A Gastown institution since 1988, with a postcard-perfect patio sitting right across from the famous Steam Clock. The menu is Pacific Northwest Italian — fresh pastas, seafood, wood-fired pizzas — and they keep prices reasonable for the location. The room itself is lovely (white tablecloths, exposed brick) and the patio is one of the most photographed spots in Gastown. Best fit if your wife and daughter want a more polished sit-down meal.
Walking directions from Stop 4
- Exit Community Thrift onto West Hastings and turn right (east) toward Carrall
- Turn left (north) onto Carrall Street, walk two blocks to Water Street

A tiny, lovingly curated gem run by volunteers. The selection is small but well-chosen — high-end designer pieces mixed with retro and kitschy housewares. 100% of proceeds go to the Chinatown Foundation for neighbourhood revitalization. Reviews consistently rave about the warm staff.
Walking directions
- Head south on Carrall Street
- Walk three blocks south to East Pender, turn left

From Chinatown~10 min Uber (~$10–13) or 25 min transit
Why go
If you've still got energy, Mintage Mall on Main Street is the heart of Vancouver's vintage scene — a multi-vendor co-op with rooms full of curated pieces from the 1920s through early 2000s. Prices are higher than thrift level (it's curated vintage), but the selection is unmatched.
F as in Frank Vintage is just two blocks south at 2425 Main if you want to make a Main Street mini-loop.

Back to the Hotel
- Uber/Taxi: $12–18 CAD, 8–12 minutes back to 1234 Hornby
- SkyTrain: Stadium-Chinatown station → Expo Line two stops to Granville → 8 min walk south on Howe Street
